THE PSYCHOLOGY OF PROCRASTINATION: CAUSES, CONSEQUENCES, AND STRATEGIES FOR OVERCOMING DELAY
Abstract
Procrastination is a widespread behavioral pattern among university students that negatively affects academic performance, psychological well-being, and long-term personal development. Although procrastination is often perceived as laziness or poor time management, research in psychology demonstrates that it is a complex self-regulation failure shaped by emotional, cognitive, and motivational factors. This paper examines procrastination from multiple psychological perspectives, explores its underlying causes and consequences in academic contexts, and presents detailed, evidence-based strategies for overcoming delay. By integrating theoretical models, empirical findings, and psychological explanations, this study provides a comprehensive understanding of procrastination and practical solutions for students.
