COMPARISON OF TRADITIONAL AND COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING METHODS
Abstract
This study explores two major English language teaching approaches: the Traditional Method, commonly represented by the Grammar-Translation Method (GTM), and Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). The comparison focuses on how each method influences learners’ linguistic development, motivation, and classroom engagement. Through classroom observation, student feedback, and analysis of scholarly sources, the study finds that while the traditional method provides a solid foundation in grammar and translation skills, CLT more effectively promotes fluency, interaction, and real-life language use. The results indicate that combining both methods might yield the most balanced and effective language learning outcomes
