THE IMPORTANCE OF CULTURAL CONTEXT IN ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION
Abstract
When teaching English as a second language (ESL), cultural context is vital because it shapes students' comprehension, communication abilities, and general language acquisition. Because language and culture are closely related, ESL teachers must incorporate cultural awareness into their teaching strategies. According to research, students who participate in intercultural conversations and are exposed to culturally relevant materials improve their language proficiency and self-assurance. Thus, comprehending cultural norms and values improves learners' capacity to participate in real-world conversations and helps them avoid misunderstandings. This essay explores various approaches to incorporating cultural context in ESL classes, including the use of real texts, role-playing, and cross-cultural comparisons. The study also examines the difficulties teachers and students encounter in culturally diverse classrooms, such as cultural prejudices and disparate.
