THE SIGNIFICANCE OF LANGUAGE AND CULTURE IN TRANSLATION
Abstract
Language serves as a dynamic phenomenon that connects different cultures and functions as a vehicle for expressing ideas and emotions. This paper explores the key role of translation in transferring cultural concepts across languages, highlighting the challenges faced by translators in this process. Translation plays a crucial role in facilitating communication across cultures, making it an essential tool for cultural exchange. However, this process is not without limitations, including factors such as censorship and inherent cultural differences. A competent translator must be aware of various cultural elements, including traditions, historical contexts, religious backgrounds, and the nuances of the source language. The translator’s task is not only to convey the meaning of the original text accurately but also to evoke a similar response from the target audience, ensuring that irrelevant or foreign concepts do not intrude upon the language used. All these factors must be carefully considered in the translation process for contextually appropriate rendering.
